Tooth-Colored Composite Fillings

Have you been waiting to fill your cavities because you’re afraid of glaring pieces of metal ruining your smile? Or have you been avoiding the dentist because you’re worried you may indeed have that dreaded cavity? With new filling technology available, filling cavities can be simple, convenient, affordable and, best of all, invisible.

At Dr. Delwiche’s Santa Rosa dental office, we offer many filling options to address your cavities. Tooth-colored composite fillings are an excellent option, blending in seamlessly with the natural shade of your teeth.

What are Tooth-Colored Composite Fillings?

Many of our conceptions about dental technology are based on the past. Dental research and development advances rapidly and new filling technology is now available for use. State-of-the-art, tooth-colored composite fillings are replacing the amalgam fillings of yesterday.
If you’re concerned about drawing attention to filled cavities with amalgam technology, composite fillings are a great option. They are designed to be the same color as your teeth so that a smile or a laugh will no longer reveal metal fillings.

Can I Replace Old Fillings with Composite Fillings?

If you are fed up with the condition or appearance of your old, amalgam cavity fillings, you may be a candidate for replacement fillings. At our office, we can replace your old metal fillings with tooth-colored composite fillings that match your natural tooth color “to a T.” Imagine finally feeling confident about your smile or laugh with a simple replacement procedure!

Benefits of Composite Fillings

Composite fillings don’t just outrank amalgam fillings in terms of appearance. They are also more durable and offer greater protection for your teeth from decay than amalgam fillings.

When old amalgam fillings are exposed to hot or cold temperatures, they contract and expand. The temperatures don’t even have to be extreme: this process is set into motion by activities such as drinking a hot cup of coffee or eating a popsicle.

Each time amalgam fillings are exposed to these temperatures, they shift their position slightly, creating small gaps susceptible to the bacterial accumulation that in turn leads to decay. With time, your amalgam fillings may even loosen enough that they fall out.

By bonding to your tooth from the inside, ultra-durable composite fillings strengthen your tooth, decreasing future maintenance needs. In the case of larger tooth fillings or root canals, this additional strength is critical to the success of the filling.

We are thrilled to be able to offer our patients experiencing cavities a superior, more attractive option for fillings using the latest technology available. The treatment you receive today will impact the dental issues you encounter tomorrow.

We are eager to help you select and access the best treatment available, all while helping you achieve the perfect smile. Call Dr. Delwiche’s office today to schedule an examination to identify and treat any cavities you may have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fillings and crowns can be done with a variety of materials. Our Santa Rosa, CA dentist and her staff will work with you to select the material that is right for you and your situation.

We prefer tooth-colored composite fillings for cavities and bonding for the best cosmetic results as well as a healthier, stronger tooth. This material is custom-blended to match the color of your natural teeth so that nobody will ever know the difference. Composite fillings also allow us to leave more of your healthy tooth intact, which reduces the risk of cracking or additional decay in the future.

For crowns, we offer various metals including stainless steel and gold, as well as acrylic and ceramic crowns. For the best aesthetics, we do recommend all-ceramic crowns, which look completely realistic so you can keep your dental work between you and Dr. Delwiche! If you are concerned about the strength of all-ceramic crowns, we also offer porcelain-over-metal crowns, giving you both strength and cosmetic advantages all in one.

Our office will be happy to work with you and your insurance company to choose the crown option that is right for you. Call today to schedule a consultation!
